Process Automation - Automation Solutions Development - Senior Automation Analyst

Position Description:

The position is for a member of the Automation Solutions Development (ASD) group that applies IT development expertise to Process Automation projects and provides common solutions which support PA's systems and internal Manufacturing customers within ArcelorMittal Dofasco  

 

The successful candidate will provide technical support to the maintenance of the installed base of automation systems at Dofasco as well as to the development of new systems. In addition they will also provide technical depth within the ASD group in one or more areas related to advanced IT technologies including investigating and / or recommending new technologies to improve automation efficiency.

 

Major Responsibilities

The position entails, but is not limited to, the following:

·Support for Process Automation and Manufacturing teams by specifying, designing and implementing improvements      to process automation systems and/or decision support tools.

·Development and maintenance of expert technical knowledge to provide support for specific IT technologies within Process Automation.

·Plan and execute tasks as part of a project or service activity.

·Perform technical investigations and root cause analyses to support automation functions.

·Deliver high quality results on time for a specific functional or technical area. 

Qualifications

·A university degree in computer science, computer engineering or related field.

·Previous software development / analyst  work experience (2 - 5 years minimum).

·Java-based programming experience (J2SE / J2EE).

·Solid knowledge of Oracle database systems, PL/SQL, and Pro*C

·Good understanding with data-warehouse methodologies (e.g. ETL)

·MapForce experience preferred

·Experience with testing on major software development projects in UNIX environment.

·Troubleshooting and problem solving skills.

·Excellent analysis and decision making ability.

·Able to work indpendently or as part of a technical or multi-discipline team.

·Proficient communication, report writing and presentation skills.

 

Work Environment

Office environment requiring visits to plant offices with up to 10 - 20% of time in plant. Required to wear personal protective equipment in plant areas.

 

Hours of Work

Normal hours of work are days, Monday to Friday, with extended hours as required to meet project deadlines or resulting from periods of peak workload. May be required to participate in rotating call-in support outside of normal working hours.
