Application Developer - (Java) Business Unit Description: Technology: responsible for the delivery of technology in support of all CIBC businesses and customers. Directly aligns to CIBC's businesses, with a technology team for each business. Delivers world class solutions in support of business strategies, through a combination of in-house systems development and working with leading technology partners. This group also manages CIBC's core computing facilities, telecommunications and networks globally. Retail Markets Technology: plans, delivers and supports end-to-end technology solutions for the various distribution channels and full range of products that service all of CIBC's Retail clients: CIBC's retail branch network, Internet, Automated Banking Machines (ABM's), telephone banking, credit products, GICs, Deposit Accounts, Global Payments and Wealth Management/Investment Products. Job Overview: Must Haves: JAVA Programming - 5 years J2EE - 3 years Weblogic Application Server - 2 years Nice to Have: Chordiant Framework - 2 years PURPOSE OF JOB: Responsible for detailed technical design and development of applications using existing and emerging technology platforms MAJOR ACTIVITIES: . Convert specifications about business requirements into programming instructions. Design and code programs create test transactions and run tests revise as necessary. . Conduct analysis of organizational needs and goals for the development and implementation of application systems. Monitor operating efficiency of existing application systems. . Review, analyze, and modify programming systems, including encoding, testing, debugging and installing for a large-scale system. Maintain records to document program development and revisions. Provide support for existing production applications. . Conduct analysis of organizational needs and goals for the development and implementation of application systems. CONTACTS: . Business clients (levels vary usually up to level 8), senior development staff to receive guidance and direction, project managers, middle to senior technology management JOB COMPLEXITIES/CHALLENGES: . Responding to production issues by analyzing business processes and practices to identify and recommend opportunities for enhancement. . Working on a small application or a component of a larger one, interacting with end users and business analysts to gather or review requirements and prepare design specifications. . Conducting impact analysis and providing feedback on problems and recommending solutions. . Assessing the impact of making small changes to the architecture. . Developing application code according to established coding standards. Where standards do not exist in areas of new technology or complexity, this position is required to develop alternatives and select the best-fit approach. . Ensuring that errors are detected in programming or testing to avoid production outages, and in initial component design to avoid delays in project schedules. PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS: . Normal office environment. . Require attention to details in system analysis/design and problem resolutions. . May require to carry a pager if production support - based on rotating schedule. Requirements: KNOWLEDGE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS: Extensive Work Experience: . Managing Multiple Priorities--Ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups or activities. Effective judgment in prioritizing and time allocation. . Interpersonal Relationships--Knowledge of approaches, tools and techniques for working with individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner. . Application Development Tools--Knowledge of a variety of specific tools and toolkits for development and support of applications such as: knowledge of J2EE and associated Java technologies, knowledge of and experience with specific technologies such as PLSQL, Java Servlets, EJB, Design Patterns, Weblogic, SOAP, MQ, XML and XSLT. . Application Delivery Process--Knowledge of major tasks, deliverables, formal methodologies and disciplines for delivering new or enhanced applications such as: RUP and associated tools like Clear Quest, Clear Case, Rational Rose and Mercury Quality Center. . Accuracy/Attention To Detail--Ability to process information with high levels of accuracy. Work Experience: .
