Collections Agent
Description:
Working under the direction of the Vice President of Finance & Administration, the incumbent will be responsible for the collection of past due accounts.
Key Duties/Tasks:
· Identify and analyze past tenant files and amounts past due
· Contact past tenants who have not met payment arrangements to resolve unsettled accounts
· Make collection calls
· Diagnose problems, propose solutions, and negotiate payment arrangements in accordance with The Collection Agencies Act, corporate policies, procedures, and mandates
· Update accounts, provide confirmations, and follow up as necessary in accordance with the law
· Collect overdue balances, exercising all legal means necessary including but not limited to wage garnishment and small claims court applications
· Attend court proceedings in relation to unsettled accounts
· Meet established productivity objectives
· Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
· Must have a secondary school diploma or equivalent
· Must have 1+ years of experience with the legal aspects of collecting from individuals
· Past experience with tenant collections is a definite asset
· Working Knowledge of The Residential Tenancies Act (RTA) is a definite asset
· Must have working knowledge of Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA)
· Must be proficient in English - written and verbal
Must possess intermediate-to-advanced computer skills(i.e. Windows-based operating systems, internet navigation, and MS Office)
· Must have strong interpersonal skills
· Must be detail oriented
· Must have superior problem-solving and negotiation skills (i.e. be able to propose options and/or solutions to debtors)
· Must be able to work well independently Must be driven to meet predetermined targets by prescribed deadlines.
