POSITION SUMMARY: 3 month contract position Securities Operations is the back-office supporting unit for Scotia Capital Inc, Scotia McLeod, Scotia McLeod Direct Investing, Group Treasury, Scotia Trust, Scotia Cassels, Custody Services and Bank subsidiaries. Securities Operations manages the specialized securities settlements for these areas on a global basis and are seeking a Senior Accounting Officer, Fixed Income Domestic Settlements to join their growing team. The Senior Accounting Officer is responsible for the timely settlement and accurate processing of ScotiaCapital domestic Fixed Income transactions. You will be required to have a sound knowledge of the various settlement processing systems and applications required to perform these functions. As well, you will provide customer service in accordance with the Scotia Service Standards and Complaint Resolution Procedures. Key accountabilities for this role: 1. Facilitate the accurate settlement and processing responsibilities of the unit by:
- Ensuring all transactions are accurately reflected in the appropriate settlement system
- Taking appropriate action to ensure all transactions are confirmed as instructed and settled on a timely basis
- Arranging funding for the various depositories
- Reporting/escalating in a timely manner any settlement problems to the appropriate sales/trade floor
- Ensuring settlement activity is accurately reflected in the appropriate bookkeeping systems
2. Perform administrative functions as required including:
- Assisting in the resolution of any reconciliation concerns and by taking appropriate action to prevent any re-occurrence
- Referring any non-routine/exceptional transactions to the immediate attention of management
3. Participate and/or assist in training / cross-training as required by management 4. Acquire and maintain a thorough knowledge of all related settlement systems and operational protocol 5. Provide customer service consistent with Scotia Service Standards and Complaint Resolution Procedures QUALIFICATIONS:
- Sound knowledge of the following operating/settlement systems used within the unit: BTS (061), Arrow, Arrow Blotter and CDS
- Knowledge of all other operating/settlement systems and applications used within the unit including: OnDemand, CMTS, FIJI and LVTS.
- Ability to work successfully in a highly stressful environment
- Excellent communication skills
- Solid planning skills, with attention to detail and the ability to prioritize
- Must exhibit sound judgment and decision making ability
