POSITION SUMMARY:


3 month contract position


Securities Operations is the back-office supporting unit for Scotia Capital Inc, Scotia McLeod, Scotia McLeod Direct Investing, Group Treasury, Scotia Trust, Scotia Cassels, Custody Services and Bank subsidiaries. Securities Operations manages the specialized securities settlements for these areas on a global basis and are seeking a Senior Accounting Officer, Foreign Income Claims to join the Securities Operations - Income Processing team.

The Senior Accounting Officer, Foreign Income Claims ensures that all foreign claims are processed accurately and within specified timeframes. You will also be responsible for verifying the interest/dividend rates, currency, tax implications with CDS, DTC, Bank of New York, Clearstream and Euroclear systems. As well, you will ensure that all entries are correctly processed and each issue is completely balanced.


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • 1-2 years experience in securities operating area of a Dealer/Broker or financial institution
  • Strong knowledge of Securities Operations and Income Processing procedures, especially those that relate to the processing of cash interest distributions and the processing of all tax related documents in the dividends area (Clearing, Reconciliations and Reorganization)
  • Excellent knowledge of operational procedures and regulations of Bank of New York, Clearstream, Euroclear, CDS, DTC, TSX and of the transfer agents and other financial institutions with whom the department interacts on claims, payments and processing of dividend/interest entitlements.
  • Complete knowledge of Dividends, Interest and associated tax issues as they relate to the payment, processing and reporting for Foreign, Canadian and US currency such as NRT, eligibility, books-close activity, record/ex/payable date implications and different tax treatments
  • Strong interpersonal skills and able to communicate effectively
  • Ability to respond to fluctuation volumes within right timeframes and maintain a high degree of accuracy
  • Strong operating knowledge of ADP system and detailed knowledge of DIVSY sub-system
  • Knowledge of the Dividend Back-Sheet system and as400 ideal
  • Strong knowledge of accounting


EDUCATION AND ACCREDITATIONS:


  • Completion of or working towards Canadian Securities Course ideal
