Description



The Individual Insurance Centre (IIC) Finance Project Team is seeking a highly motivated, committed individual with a keen analytical ability and an enquiring mind. As a project representative for Finance, the successful candidate will have a sense of overall accountability on significant project with an accounting impact.





Reporting to the Manager of Finance Projects, the Senior Financial Control Analyst is a key role in providing leadership and direction. This position offers the opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge of IIC related Administration Systems and the appropriate accounting. It is expected that this knowledge will be applied to a variety of projects related to reinsurance, rationalization of administrative systems and expansion of IIC products. As the Finance representative on key projects, this is a critical position and attention to financial impacts are paramount. The position requires accounting expertise and an understanding of systems. The ability to influence and negotiate with parties internal and external to Finance is essential for successful results. The Senior Financial Control Analyst is required to lead and coordinate business initiatives and document a wide range of tactical strategies from Business Specification Documentation to Escalation Procedures and Quality Control Requirements.





Key Accountabilities:







  • Build strong relationships with project partners and deal with crisis resolution




  • Display strong business & technical knowledge and provide support to peers




  • Provide analysis of product additions & enhancements projects for Accounting System changes via specification documentation and JAD sessions




  • Deliver business specifications clearly defining requirements, testing and documenting




  • Perform high quality assurance for IIC's Accounting Controls, Sarbanes Oxley (SOX), and Financial Reporting




  • Develop an understanding of related accounting, services and IIC Life products




  • Develop test strategies and support development of test plans for function and user acceptance testing




  • Document and train business end users on changes relating to project releases




  • Identify processing errors or system trends and recommend alternate solutions




  • Audit data integrity on calculations and investigate financial queries from multiple sources




  • Provide assistance to support and monitor reporting (monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual)




  • Take initiative to identify and suggest efficiency improvements and new or expanded service standards.

Qualifications





  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills required to liaise with colleagues across the organization to resolve any project issues relating to accounting


  • Proven ability to exercise flexibility and judgment in assessing business issues and associated risks while staying focused on project deliverables


  • Strong analytical skills to develop and manage complex process flows


  • Ability to establish priorities and manage tasks with accuracy and attention to detail


  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new concepts and technologies


  • Ability to negotiate assignments with team members


  • Excellent PC software skills including spreadsheet/database design and management


  • Graduate of a university or college Business, Finance, and or Commerce program or comparable education & experience


  • Professional accounting designation (CA, CMA, CGA) or near completion.


Preferred Experience




  • Proven Business Analysis experience for medium to large size project


  • Knowledge of Individual Insurance products and administrative systems is helpful


  • Insurance industry experience


  • Lawson and other appropriate General Ledger system experience.
